WHEN GOD TESTIFIES

Have you ever sat among other Christians and heard them testify? They may testify about the difficult circumstance that they endured but then remind you of the God who delivers us out of all of our troubles. I am strengthened by the testimonies of others. It is a time where we are reminded to stay the course, do not give up, and to keep our focus on Jesus. However, what about when God testifies? Yes, the Bible tells us that God testifies about people.  A testimony is to be a witness, give evidence, bear record, and to have a good honest report.

In Genesis 5 (amongst a genealogy), there are a few passages of scripture that offer a powerful testimony.  After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him(Genesis 5:22-24). We gain further understanding about Enoch’s relationship with God in Hebrews 11:5. By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Enoch’s testimony was that he pleased God. How did Enoch please God so much that God decided that he would not experience death?  Hebrews 11:5 teaches us that it was by faith.  It is by our faith that we are able to please God.  Your faith is proof of the things that you are hoping for in God. Your faith confirms the reality of what cannot be seen in the physical world.  You do not have to hope for what is seen, but it requires faith to hope for the unseen.

In fact, Hebrews 11:6 tells us, But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. God is pleased when we trust His character and Word, despite our circumstances. God is pleased when we prove to be a testimony of His goodness by walking with Him in our daily lives. When our lives testify of Him, He testifies about us. What testimony does God have about you?
