Happy New Year! Happy New Decade! Happy new you? With the New Year, many of us make resolutions to improve our health, get out of debt, or go back to school. A New Decade brings renewed vision and purpose in life. It is as if life has reset and everything is full of promise. We envision making life-changing and life-impacting improvements. We see ourselves moving from glory-to-glory, victory-to-victory, and triumph-to-triumph. I want to let you know that even after the newness of the year wears off, and some of the resolutions have fallen by the wayside, it is possible to go from glory-to-glory. The Scripture has a clear description of it. Second Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Is there something different about you? Have you changed? I hope so! As a Christian, it is God’s purpose for you to change. God did not save you only to show His power. He did not put His Spirit in you only to give His gifts. While He does all of that (and more) through us, God’s definition of glory-to-glory is that we are being changed into His image. As we walk with God, our character should be a reflection of Christ’s character. We begin to put aside our worldly attitudes, behaviors, and words. Our lives begin to produce love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Each year, we make resolutions to become a better version of ourselves but God has already promised to make us look like Him. Fortunately, we do not have to change on our own. Second Corinthians says that the Spirit of the Lord tranforms us. When we abide in Him, and He abides in us, we bring forth much fruit (John 15:5). It is by staying connected to Him that we are changed. In fact, if we are the same person that we were 12 months ago, we may not be walking as closely with God as we need to be. As the New Year and New Decade brings renewed hope and possibilities, set your eyes on the great promise of being transformed into His image. When you look at yourself through the mirror of His character and look more like Him…it is glorious!
